Located in the border regions of Bolivia, Chile, and Peru, the Altiplano is a plateau nearly half the size of Finland, with an average altitude of 3,700 meters in the Andes Mountains. The dry, cool, and windy air sweeps across the shoulders of volcanoes at an altitude of approximately 4,000–6,500 meters, revealing the amazing colors of the bedrock. Water evaporates much more than it rains there, and even the lakes are saturated with salt and other minerals, giving them exciting colors.
