Ice Slitherer

starting at €90.00

My home sea, the Baltic Sea, freezes over in winter – at least partially. In a normal winter, the Bothnian Bay, the Kvarken, almost the entire Bothnian Sea, the Archipelago Sea, and the Gulf of Finland freeze over, as does perhaps part of the northern Baltic Sea. In a mild winter, the Bothnian Sea does not freeze at all, and the Gulf of Finland freezes only at its head and along the shores. It is wonderful to travel on the sea ice, provided you are properly equipped. The ice is alive. It shrinks and expands, sings and rumbles. Long cracks appear in it. Sometimes the edges of the cracks push against each other, rise up and form huge sculptures, such as this slithering creature.

HOME SHORES – Pictures from the Finnish coast

Vanhin, ikuinen rakkauteni on meri, joka aaltoilee kotimaani rannoilla. Olen kuvannut sitä lapsesta saakka viettäessäni kesiä Iniön saaristossa. Kuvia on kertynyt useilta vuosikymmeniltä. Olen julkaissut siitä myös kaksi kirjaa: Kuohu – koukussa saaristoon ja Meri, joka jalkojani huuhtelee. Niitä voi tiedustella ottamalla yhteyttä. Tähän sarjaan olen koonnut muutamia mieleenpainuvimpia otoksia kotirannoilta vuosien varrelta.
