Traditional fish sold commercially, such as whitefish, perch, and pike, were referred to as "suomukala" (fish with scales). The term referred specifically to the intended use of the fish, not its biology, for example. However, many important commercial fish were not classified as fish for sale, such as Baltic herring, European sprat, or smelt – nor were salmon or trout. Fish with scales have been caught with this type of net.

NOSTALGIA – Memories of the past

Even in the dim light of the waterfront shed, you can see the practical beauty of the handle, worn smooth by decades of use. The spirit of the curly pine tree lives on in the tool – the tree from which it was crafted. In all the boxes and barrels, fishing net hooks, ice augers, corfs, decoy ducks, shovels and scrapers... The new cannot replace the old. It lacks the stories, spirits, and elves.
