For years, people have sailed the seas, following day marks, buoys, beacons, and line markers. A pair of line markers indicates the exact location of the fairway. The lower line marker is closer when viewed from the fairway, and the upper one is further away. When the line markers are one on the other, the vessel is traveling along the center line of the fairway. The line markers stand out from the terrain in daylight with their strong contrasting colors. At night, the illuminated line markers have a calming effect on those traveling on the dark sea.
