At a southern tip of Australia, on Cape Otway, stands what was once the most significant lighthouse on the entire continent. The lighthouse is only about twenty meters tall, but perched atop a majestic 70-meter coastal cliff, its light once shone 91 meters above sea level. The beautiful lighthouse with its bright red staircase is now merely a historical relic, as navigation is currently guided by a pitiful little light at its base.

Sieltä voi nähdä pilvien varjot meren peilissä – ja majakkasaaren pienen maailman. 1950-luvulta lähtien majakat alkoivat jäädä ilman vartijoitaan tai jopa tyystin tarpeettomiksi. Vasta vuosituhannen vaihteen tienoolla säiden ja ilkivallan armoille hylättyjen merimerkkien kulttuuri- ja arkkitehtuuriarvot alettiin ymmärtää ja niitä ryhdyttiin pelastamaan. Jokainen, joka on osallistunut yhdenkin majakkamme pelastamiseen, on antanut lahjan kaikille suomalaisille.
