Green seaweed flutters at the water's edge, the beard of an ancient water god. The filamentous fronds rock to the eternal rhythm of the waves. When the sea level is low, as it often is in spring and early summer, the strands left dry turn white, like those of an old man. The tresses of algae create beautifully embroidered tapestries along the shore.

HOME SHORES – Pictures from the Finnish coast

My oldest, eternal love is the sea that laps at the shores of my homeland. I have been photographing it since I was a child, spending my summers in the Iniö archipelago. I have accumulated photos from several decades. I have also published two books about it: Kuohu – koukussa saaristoon (The Surge – Hooked on the Archipelago) and Meri, joka jalkojani huuhtelee (The Sea That Rinses My Feet).
