Wintering Harbor

starting at €90.00

A winter storm sweeps across the island. The low rocky ridge offers little protection to the harbor bay. There are hardly any visitors there. The bay is frozen solid, and transport links to the mainland are limited to a ferry that stops in front of the village. On this photo trip, we stepped off the boat directly onto the pitch-black ice. A headlamp lit up the approximately one-kilometer walk to the shore. A big surprise was revealed at dawn when we saw the open, rolling sea from the cabin window! The night wind had broken up the entire ice field and pushed the ice out of sight.

HOME SHORES – Pictures from the Finnish coast

My oldest, eternal love is the sea that laps at the shores of my homeland. I have been photographing it since I was a child, spending my summers in the Iniö archipelago. I have accumulated photos from several decades. I have also published two books about it: Kuohu – koukussa saaristoon (The Surge – Hooked on the Archipelago) and Meri, joka jalkojani huuhtelee (The Sea That Rinses My Feet). You can inquire about them by the Contact us page. In this set of images, I have compiled some of the most memorable shots from my home shores over the years.
